How To Do A Hair Pouf? 5 Foolproof Ways

Hi, gorgeous people,

After seeing my latest profile picture in FB (OOTD coming soon – It’s a wedding diaries entry too *wink* Shh!) people have been asking me if I did my hair style at a parlor. Some people even thought that I got it done from my personal hairstylist. For starters, I haven’t had a cut or style from my stylist since March 2014, yeah you read it right. Anyway, I did the hair style by myself, it was a french braid or Elsa braid (with no hair extensions) and a pouf.

So, yeah. The pouf hairstyle seems to be trending a lot these days, but the pouf hairstyle dates back to as early as 18th century. First used in France, this hair style has become a fashion once again. My sister always says, “Fashion, like history, repeats itself.” Anyway, without more talks, let me tell you about the 5 foolproof ways that I know to do a hair pouf. All these are tried and tested by me.

1. No Heat, No teasing, No Spray Pouf:

This is the most uncomplicated method to do a pouf. All you need is a comb, bobby pins, and of course your hair.

1. Comb your hair thoroughly with your regular comb.
2. Take a small section from the crown of your head.
3. Give it a little push, and pin it with bobby pins.

This method works well on just dried hair. This can be used for everyday styling as it has no heat, teasing or spray. To make this pouf stand stronger, put 4 bobby pins in a crisscross fashion. Also, use a mild spray if you want.

Pros:
1. No need of fancy hair accessories
2. Can wear all day, everyday

Cons:
1. Doesn’t stay for long

2. Back Combing Or Teasing Pouf

This is the most common and my favorite method for making a pouf. This doesn’t differ much from the first method, except that you need a rat tail comb or a teasing brush in addition to the other objects needed in method 1.

1. Comb your hair thoroughly with your regular comb.
2. Take a small section from the crown of your head.
3. Split the sections to smaller sections, and back comb each section.
4. Smooth out the front side of the back combed sections, gather all the sections and secure it with bobby pins.

This method works well on a day old hair. To make this pouf stand stronger, put 4 bobby pins in a crisscross fashion. Also, use a mild spray if you want.

Pros:
1. No need of fancy hair accessories.
2. Stays for a longer time than method 1.

Cons:
1. Teasing makes hair drier at the end of the day.

3. Hair Pouf With Hair Pouf Paste

This is a really easy way to do a pouf. I got this Pouf Paste from AliExpress.com. All you got to do is repeat steps one and two of methods one and two, place it pouf paste inside the hair that was sectioned out and secure them with bobby pins.

There are various varieties of pouf pastes and these two are the most common ones. To make this pouf stand stronger, put 4 bobby pins in a crisscross fashion. Also, use a mild spray if you want.

Pros:
1. Easy to do on own hair.
2. Quick and everyday style.
3. Stays long, and doesn’t dry the hair out.

Cons:
1. Buying a good quality pouf paste is difficult.
2. Removing can be tedious if you have a dry hair or if you have used hair spray on your hair.

4. Hair Pouf With A Bumpit

The one in the picture above (my pic) is done using a bumpit. I have used a small/medium side bumpit. You can use the bumpits based on the height and width of the pouf you need.

Repeat first 2 steps as other methods, place the bumpit inside the front section, make sure that it is placed securely, and then secure them with bobby pins.

Again this one is from Aliexpress. To make this pouf stand stronger, put 4 bobby pins in a crisscross fashion. Also, use a mild spray if you want.

Pros:
1. Easy to do on own hair.
2. Quick and everyday style.
3. Stays long, and doesn’t dry the hair out.

Cons:
1. The teeth of bumpits can get struck in hair and make it uneasy if not placed properly.
2. Removing can be tedious if you have a dry hair or if you have used hair spray on your hair.

5. Hair Pouf With A Mini Bun

If you have longer thicker hair like mine, then this is your go to for hair pouf method. All you got to do is make a mini bun under the section of hair that your separated from your crown, and then place that section over your bun and pin them with bobby pins and use a hair spray to make sure everything is in place.

Pouf #hair without teasing! Mini bun under the poof. My fine hair might do this!? #tip

Pros:
1. Gives a nice natural pouf.
2. Stays long, and doesn’t dry the hair out.

Cons:
1. Takes long time.
2. Need thicker and longer hair
